Appalled and Disappointed at Australia's new laws - Legalizing Abortion!

The Headlines on The Age today read: "Abortion pill on its way soon"

What do you think?

If someone spoke about it...how would you react to their statements about abortion if they are pro-abortion?

I am disappointed with these women who have supported and campaigned for such a bill to be passed in Australian legislation. And to have the cheek to celebrate with champagne after that...What's the difference between murdering an adult and ending the life of a foetus that is not yet born? Both are murder!!! In my opinion, people have done many things in the name of rights...But not all of them really help to build up the society. Is this really a decision we have the right to make?

This will only encourage more sexual promiscuity amongst the young people and allow people to easily run away from a serious mistake and not face the consequences. This will not strenghten a society. But weaken the core beliefs that SHOULD hold a society together...

So what can we do? I feel like this is one of those things that happens around us and we are helpless to do anything. But to a degree it reminds me of the importance of speaking to people about our beliefs and stands more and sharing with people so that they can know God's heart too...

News from The Age

AUSTRALIAN women could have access to the abortion pill within months after federal MPs yesterday voted decisively to let medical experts approve the drug as an alternative to surgical terminations.

There was both despair and elation as legislation overturning the health minister's decade-long veto power over abortion drugs passed easily.

But MPs were denied a chance to register their vote in the final ballot after Prime Minister John Howard — who opposed the bill — headed off a formal count. An earlier vote after the marathon debate put support at 95 votes to 50.

The historic resolution cleared the way for medical experts to decide whether women seeking an abortion should have the choice between surgery or a pill taken under medical supervision.

At least four doctors have already applied to the Therapeutic Goods Administration to be allowed to prescribe the drug, while the five global manufacturers are now able to apply for Australia-wide distribution rights.

As the vote unfolded yesterday, pro-life senators Steve Fielding and George Brandis looked on despondently from the public gallery.

But relief and delight were etched on the faces of the four female senators who sponsored the bill in Parliament, and later they celebrated with champagne.

An "elated" Victorian Liberal senator Judith Troeth said they had secured "a very important choice for women and their families", while Nationals colleague Fiona Nash said: "We believed it was the right thing to do."

Rebuffing arguments that the first death of a woman caused by RU486 would be on their heads, Democrats leader Lyn Allison said no aspect of reproductive health was totally safe, including pregnancy and childbirth.

In his speech before the conscience vote, Mr Howard insisted that RU486 was not just like any other drug. "We are not dealing with a flu tablet," he said.

He also attacked what he saw as a bid by some MPs to duck hard issues.

"There is just a whiff in this whole debate … of 'this is a little too difficult and controversial so let's give it to somebody else'," he said. "In the end, we are elected to make decisions on difficult issues."
